Thinking About the Text p 92-100

1. The author, Katherine Spriggs has made me believe that buying locally is better. I already try to buy as much local fruits and vegetables as I can but sometimes it just isn't convenient and so ill go to a grocery store. Spriggs explained several different reasons why we should buy locally from farmers markets or local farms. Since she was really into her topic it helped me feel her passion towards this. Katherine Spriggs also added a couple opposed views on her topic, which she came back and had excellent explanations for them. She knew all of her facts and had really good statistics.
2. She mentions Alex Avery's opinion on how we should "buy food from the world region where it grows best". Which makes a good point because we shouldn't be trying to grow fruits that grow well in Florida in Western Washington. She comes back saying that it would be a waste of time and so we should just buy locally and just eat the fruits and vegetables that are in season.
3. In the second paragraph of On Buying Local, Katherine Spriggs states all of her topics that she will be later discussed in this essay. She states her position right away, she says all the good things that  come from buying local. Her clearness on why her topic matters is very obvious, the entire paragraph is focused on that mainly. Although she does not mention the opposing views in this paragraph she does mention how it helps and supports small businesses and farms, which appeals to anyone who loves to help.
4. All of Katherine Spriggs photos in her essay makes her point even more valid. The first photo is of some Organic Winter Squash, which was probably in season when this photo was taken. The caption talks about how it is good to shop at farmers markets to support and strengthen the local economy. Figure 2 shows a small polyculture farm, which is also important in making her argument. Then the third picture shows the opposite, a large monoculture farm. On page 97 it shows Figure 4 which shows four large semi trucks which is hauling food that is being transported. The caption says "Interstate trucking is expensive finically and economically". Which shows another reason why you should by locally, to help the economy. All of these photos have been added to help Spriggs make her point more justifiable.
