Coca-Cola Summary

Melissa Rubin wrote and analysis titled "Advertisements R Us", which you can find in the English textbook, "Everyone's an Author". During Rubins analysis she talks about a Coca-Cola ad from the 1950's. She points out all the hidden meanings that lie in the ad. She pointed out how there were only white people, no African Americans, still because of the racial discrimination going on at that time era. Another "flaw" that the author talks about is how there are very few women in this ad. There are a few, but they are not in the very front, they are in the back with a crowd of people. The people in this ad that are at the front of all of the rest of the citizens are men in uniform. The author then went on and talked about how Coca-Cola shipped over their drinks during WWII for the soldiers. Rubin also pointed out that floating in the sky is the Coca-Cola Sprite Boy, he is acting sort of like a God. The pixie-like boy is holding out a hand and gesturing it towards the people to show that all of the people down below are enjoying Coca-Cola.  The background represents the 1950's and the environment they lived in, industrial buildings and skyscrapers. Lastly, the very center of the ad there is a huge Coca-Cola vending machine. On that machine it has the slogan "Work Refreshed" implying that if you are working, you can drink a Coke and you will feel refreshed.
